It was time for OCS to evolve into Thee Oh Sees.

The Cool Death of Island Raiders has a mix of very mellow, lo-fi psychedelic songs and drones, altogether producing a murky and vague experience which tends to bypass the conscious mind completely. It is rather a trip into some of the most mystical-sounding lo-fi blues songs you'll ever hear. The foggy drone-folk atmosphere is particularly appealing, and the whole album's strength resides in the beautiful use of reverb and other dreamlike effects, perfect for such psychedelic music.

It is possible that the best songs on this album are not as good as the versions that appear on Thee Hounds of Foggy Concept. The exception to this is Island Raiders with trippy flutes that take it to a whole new level. The Guilded Cunt is one of the band's all time classic tracks.
